A Watched Pot Never Boils...

The "Before" picture. It was a happy time...
Things turned not so happy (and ugly!) rather quickly.
We had a fun time in Fairfield for Christmas, especially spillin' the beans to those who didn't already know about our little bun.
14 weeks--feeling better, but super tired! I'd like to think that this looks a lot different than I look un-pregnant...
Russell's starting to grow his "sympathy baby" and a mustache, which is coming off in about a week. (Darn...)

So, hopefully it's pretty clear now that we're having a baby. Congrats to us--we're excited! Right now is the not-as-fun part where the new excitement/shock of it all meets the reality that we actually are going to have a little kid and lines are kind of blurred. Here's the problem: all I want to do is buy baby clothes, but we don't know the gender yet. I would like to wear maternity clothes, but they'd look foolish because there's not much to fill them in. (I am employing a hairband around my jeans button, though.) We're picking out some names, but July 19th is so far away, we'll probably forget or change our minds about the current ones. I suppose what this all boils down to is: I'm impatient and I'm sure it's only going to get worse.

On a bit of a less complain-about-a-good-thing note, the Snow Riders season has officially started! Snow Riders is a club at my Middle School that I'm adviser for because I love Russell. We have 8 trips from Jan.-March where we go to various ski resorts in the Reno/Tahoe region on Saturdays. Russell gets a free lift ticket and I would too if I wasn't so busy growing our child; I get some nice lodge time. We took a trip up to Alpine Meadows yesterday and it was snowing and cold, but apparently nice powder to board on, so it was a good day for all. Next week we are going to Mt. Rose, a local favorite, and if the lovely snow keeps falling, it should be another great day on the slopes. All I really want is a snow delay for school--is that so much to ask?

A HUGE Birthday Wish/Dream

So, at the beginning of February the Gourlie clan will be heading down to Las Vegas for two very important reasons. First and foremost, I have an admissions interview with UNLV's Physical Therapy school. Secondly, I'm gonna turn 28 in style. That is where you, my awesome blog-reading friend comes in. I am trying to raise some cash-money to not only improve my birthday, but to also give me a better chance of nailing the interview.

"How can we help you out, Russell?" You are asking yourselves right now. Simple, I need to rent a Corvette for a day. A little American muscle can go a long ways. Just imagine the confidence I will have as I pull up to the interview in such a fine piece of machinery. Imagine the smile on my face as I sit down for the most important interview of my life, a chance to be accepted into PT school and provide a better life for my family. Imagine how good and fulfilled you will feel with the knowledge that you are helping me have a very special special day. You, my friend, are a key part in the equation. For a small donation you can help me cover the roughly $200 it will take to purchase the confidence and the help I need to give the best interview possible. And you can help me have a kick-butt birthday. For more information you can check out the facebook group "Support a man's dream" or contact either myself or Carolyn. Don't let this life changing opportunity to pass you by. Thank you.

Hmm...one year later and I'm posting again! I got a brief tutorial on how to do this Blog thing (thanks Hunter) and we'll see how things go. One of my New Year's resolutions is to keep a blog updated. That may mean once every month, so don't get any hopes up. 2009 wasn't quite as eventful as 2008 and I anticipate not as eventful as 2010. Here's a bit of what happened last year:
  • Finished first year of teaching Middle School
  • Went to Disneyland/Tahoe/Washington/Las Vegas during the summer
  • Saw Wicked in San Fran
  • Directed/acted in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"
  • Became credit card debt-free
  • Put a bun in the oven
  • Russell met Kai (hence, he came home from his mission)
  • Went to a Mariners game in Oakland
  • Girls Camp do-hah
  • Probably other stuff
See? Not too exciting. Things are good, though. Love you all-Happy New Year!
